Drool over Pepper.ph: A Gastronomic Online Delight

Saturday, April 27, 2013

My sister, who happens to have food as one of her top priorities in life (hahaha!) recommended a Filipino food blog a couple of weeks ago called Pepper.ph. The soonest their recipes page loaded and displayed "Beer-Glazed Bacon" and "Salted Caramel Chocolate Mug Cake", I was hooked!

I love that they have a variety of recipes that range from easy-to-do munchies you can snack on anytime of the day, to simple meals that can still manage to wow house guests. I also like the idea that I won't have to be a professional chef to dish out unique and delicious food, and that most of them don't take a whole lot of time & effort--especially since I seem to be doing 10,000 other mommy chores everyday.

One example of an interesting recipe is the Deep Fried Honey Bagoong Chicken (photo below; click here for recipe details), where you just basically marinate chicken wings in shrimp paste & honey, coat in flour, deep dry, & glaze with a similar base mixture. Pretty cool that they took only 4 basic ingredients and *poof* -- a different twist to your crunchy fried chicken! They also have drool-worthy dessert ideas like Nutella Fudge, Halo-halo Crepe, Vanilla Popcorn & Deep-fried Cinnamon Apple Dumplings.

In addition, they feature food hacks to some of our favorite resto dishes so you can recreate them at home, like Flaming Wings' Wicked Oreos (Oreo dipped in pancake batter & deep fried, then served w/ vanilla ice cream on top); Mr. Kebab's famous garlic dip (which I am addicted to) and Pancake House's famous homemade spaghetti, among others.

The blog also has sections like Restaurant Spotlight which talks about some of Manila's hippest dining venues that the blog staff has tried; Pepper Eats -- their photo journal; trivia, & also news on the local food industry.

I can't wait to get back in the kitchen to try all of these out. Heck, I can't wait for Joaquin to get a bit older so he can get messy with me in the kitchen & enjoy these belly goodies! If you're food-crazy, I know for a fact you'll enjoy this site, too.
